In 2021, GoDurham Access launched a supplemental assisted mobility model to manage nationwide driver shortages and rapid growth. Alongside its operating partner, WeDriveU, GoDurham Access partnered with UZURV to deliver a flexible, FTA-compliant solution that improved service efficiency and broadened access.

UZURV reached target trip volumes within two weeks of starting rides, enabling GoDurham Access to expand service availability before month one ended. In 2025, GoDurham Access awarded UZURV a five-year contract extension after sustained performance, including a 96% On-Time Performance (OTP) rate and a 39% improvement in per-trip cost efficiency.

Challenge:

Following the pandemic, GoDurham Access saw rapid growth in paratransit demand amid nationwide bus operator shortages. This combination of challenges constrained GoDurham’s paratransit service, impacting overall service delivery and cost efficiency. To support its dedicated fleet, GoDurham Access and its operating partner, WeDriveU, sought a flexible, supplemental capacity solution to improve per-trip cost efficiency and service predictability while maintaining FTA compliance and rider safety.
