UZURV Services in Greater Boston

MBTA

The Massachusetts Bay Transit Authority (The T) has selected UZURV – The Adaptive TNC to serve as one of its new providers for The RIDE. The RIDE Access Center (TRAC) now assigns scheduled trips to UZURV when TRAC software determines that a UZURV vehicle would be the most efficient service option for providing their trips. This will let The RIDE get vehicles to customers faster, avoid delays, and potentially provide more direct trips. To learn more about The RIDE, including eligibility requirements, when and where RIDE service is available and other details, visit the MBTA RIDE landing page.

Who Can Use UZURV?

Any eligible customer of The RIDE who has enrolled in The RIDE program may be assigned UZURV trips through TRAC. Once eligible, TRAC will determine which trips are assigned to UZURV and which are provided on The RIDE fleet. For more information on The RIDE,  including information on enrolling in the program, how TRAC-scheduled trips are assigned, and much more, visit The Ride information page.

How UZURV Provides Service

UZURV provides door to door transportation with a team of credentialed and specially trained drivers who operate their own personal vehicles—much like other Transportation Network Companies (TNCs). UZURV is also able to accommodate customers who need wheelchair-accessible service through partnerships with local wheelchair-accessible vehicle (WAV) providers who agree to meet all program requirements. Before providing trips, all UZURV and WAV provider drivers pass a nationwide background check, a Federal Transit Administration (FTA) compliant substance abuse test, and demonstrate knowledge of appropriate techniques for transporting people with disabilities and older adults.

When and Where Will UZURV Operate Services for The RIDE

UZURV will provide trips assigned to it by the TRAC in all areas and at launch from 5:30am to 11:30pm, and then shortly after launch, during all times during which The RIDE operates. The RIDE operates throughout in 58 towns and cities comprising the Greater Boston Area. The RIDE days and hours of service are based on bus, trolley and subway services provided by the T. For a list of cities where the RIDE operates and a link for downloading a map of the RIDE service area, visit The RIDE landing page.

Fares and Payment

Fares for TRAC-scheduled RIDE trips start at $3.35 per one-way trip where the pick-up and drop-off addresses are within the T’s designated ADA paratransit service area. Trips that are changed after 5:00 p.m. on the day before travel and/or to areas outside the T’s designated ADA paratransit service area cost $5.60. Fares are automatically deducted from the customer’ online RIDE account. UZURV drivers do not handle cash, tickets or passes. Visit the Fares and Adding to Your RIDE Account page for more information about RIDE fares.

How Many Passengers can UZURV Accommodate?

In keeping with ADA requirements and RIDE policy, UZURV is able to accommodate the ADA paratransit certified rider and up to two additional passengers: a Personal Care Attendant (PCA) and an additional companion. Presently, passengers are prohibited from sitting in the front seats of any vehicle.

Can UZURV Transport Children?

UZURV will transport children as long as they are accompanied by a responsible adult who is at least eighteen years of age. In accordance with Massachusetts state law, children under the age of eight and/or measuring less than four feet, nine inches in height must be in an approved child safety seat which is provided by the rider. In keeping with UZURV policy, drivers are prohibited from lifting or carrying children, including children who are already strapped into their child safety seats.

Traveling with a Service Animal?

UZURV welcomes passengers with service animals and has a zero-tolerance policy for any driver who knowingly denies access to a customer traveling with a service animal. A service animal must be under the physical or verbal control of its handler at all times and must sit or lie on the floor of the vehicle at all times. For more information, check out “Respecting Riders with Service Animals”.

What About Mobility Devices?

As stated above, UZURV is able to transport riders traveling in mobility devices. UZURV drivers operating their own vehicles can transport any rider who can safely transfer from their manual wheelchair or walker into the passenger seat of a sedan or SUV and as long as the mobility device can be safely stored in the vehicle’s trunk or cargo area. UZURV drivers can assist with the storage of mobility devices upon request. UZURV partners with WAV providers for trips by customers unable to transfer out of their mobility devices and/or for people with mobility devices that cannot be stowed inside the trunk or cargo area of a sedan or SUV.

What Assistance Will Drivers Provide?

In accordance with RIDE policy, UZURV drivers will provide door to door service which includes the following assistance when needed.

Drivers will:

  • Meet you at the outermost door of the building where you begin your trip. NOTE: drivers are not permitted to lose sight of the vehicle.
  • Greet you by name and announce that they are your UZURV driver.
  • Provide physical assistance and/or verbal guidance to and from the vehicle if requested.
  • Provide assistance with the vehicle seatbelt and mobility device securement systems if needed.
