UZURV Services in the Houston Metro Region


UZURV offers private, door-to-door service for eligible ADA paratransit riders who use the METROLift transportation program in Greater Houston, Texas. METROLift provides UZURV’s services when METROLift is unavailable for riders.

How UZURV works

  • UZURV provides direct, nonstop rides with door-to-door service.
  • Drivers are carefully screened and ready to assist you to and from the vehicle, as needed.
  • Riders with mobility devices that can be stored in a trunk or cargo area, and who can safely transfer to a vehicle with minimal assistance may use UZURV’s basic service.
  • Wheelchair-accessible vehicles (WAV) are not included in this service at this time.

What is UZURV?

UZURV is an adaptive transportation network that provides safe, high-quality door-to-door service for older adults and people with disabilities, including those who need wheelchair-accessible service. 

What service does UZURV provide?

UZURV provides door-to-door transportation with a team of carefully screened drivers who operate their own personal vehicles. 

Standard Service

UZURV accommodates riders who can safely board and ride in sedans or SUVs. We also provide transportation to customers who use manual wheelchairs and walkers that can be stored in the vehicle’s trunk or cargo area and who can safely transfer to the seat of the vehicle with minimal assistance should be able to use standard service. 

Please note: UZURV drivers are able to assist with the storage of mobility devices upon request.

Wheelchair-Accessible Service

Customers who use mobility devices that cannot be stored in a vehicle’s trunk or cargo area AND customers who cannot safely transfer to the seat of a standard UZURV vehicle, can request a wheelchair-accessible vehicle (WAV), when offered by a program. 

Availability of wheelchair-accessible vehicles via UZURV’s service varies by program. Additionally, service hours for wheelchair-accessible service may differ from standard service. Check availability and hours of operation with the program providing your service.

How are UZURV drivers screened?

Before providing trips, drivers must pass a nationwide background check, a Federal Transit Administration (FTA) compliant drug screening, and they must demonstrate knowledge of appropriate techniques for transporting older adults and people with disabilities.

UZURV drivers must also successfully complete courses in ADA compliance, rider care, and driver safety. 

Who rides with UZURV?

Older adults and people with disabilities who are eligible to ride through one of our transit agency or nonprofit partners. Any rider who is eligible and safely able to use traditional paratransit and non-emergency medical transportation services should be able to utilize UZURV.

How many passengers can UZURV accommodate?

Because UZURV is a sedan-based service, we can accommodate the rider, plus two additional passengers. Personal Care Attendants ride free. Fees for guests and children vary by program.

Can UZURV transport children?

UZURV will transport children as long as they are accompanied by a responsible adult who is at least eighteen years of age. Riders must provide an approved child safety seat in accordance with state law. UZURV drivers are prohibited from lifting or carrying children.

What is UZURV’s service animal policy?

UZURV welcomes passengers with service animals and has a zero-tolerance policy for any driver who knowingly denies access to a customer traveling with a service animal. A service animal must be under the physical or verbal control of its handler at all times and must sit or lie on the floor of the vehicle at all times. Will UZURV accept riders with mobility devices?

Yes. Riders who can safely transfer from their manual wheelchair or walker into the passenger seat of a sedan or SUV with minimal assistance, AND whose manual wheelchair or walker can be stored in the vehicle’s trunk or cargo area, may use UZURV’s standard service. All other riders using mobility devices should request a WAV vehicle.
